Hi,
I have recently done this myself... A lot of SSD"s come with a program to lớn "Clone" your Hard Drive to lớn the SSD... A lot of times it"s a Acronis product...
Since your SSD is most likely going lớn be smaller than your HDD, the partition would need khổng lồ be resized... Which the cloning software should do, but you will need lớn check, depending on what you over up with...
In my case, I already had a copy of Acronis TrueImage which comes on a bootable CD...
1) I hooked an external HDD up to my computer and booted from the Acronis CD...
You can also use a 2nd internal drive if you have one
2) I "Backed Up" my OS partition to an"IMAGE" on the external drive..., instead of Cloning...

This way, I have a permanent copy I can reload at any time...
3) I removed the HDD with the OS on it, & put the SSD in it"s place...
4) I again booted with the CD and this time "RECOVERED" the image to the SSD...
I then rebooted my machine lớn windows, & was finished... No reactivating or whatever necessary.
Cloning should work about the same except you don"t have a spare image if something goes wrong.... But as long as Win 8.1 is still on the HDD, you can try again...
You can then save the HDD for backup in case the SSD fails, or reformat it and use it for storage.
